Watsco: Stable Q1 margins, stronger e-commerce, cautious outlook

Watsco's Q1 update supports a measured growth case: e-commerce expansion, parts-and-supplies growth, the Jackson Supply acquisition, and pricing technology provide operating levers. Evidence is mixed because management was cautious about summer demand, inventory levels, tariffs, and the timing of margin improvement.

What changed

Relative to the prior quarter, the emphasis shifted from completed acquisitions and inventory reduction to the Jackson Supply acquisition, e-commerce expansion, and execution on inventory and pricing systems. Sales growth was modest at 2%, while management maintained its margin objective and adopted a cautious tone ahead of the summer selling season.

Guidance delta

Maintained. Management retained its long-term 30% gross-margin target while focusing on pricing optimization, inventory turns, and technology investments.

Key takeaways

  • Q1 sales increased 2% with stable margins as the A2L product mix matured.
  • E-commerce sales rose 16%, and management expects OnCallAir to exceed $2 billion in 2026 gross merchandise value.
  • The Jackson Supply acquisition adds 25 Sunbelt locations and expands the parts-and-supplies business.

Management priorities

  • Improve pricing optimization and advance toward the 30% gross-margin target
  • Expand e-commerce, OnCallAir, and AI-driven customer-experience tools
  • Improve inventory turns through the Hydros system and broaden parts and supplies

Methodology

Reported and consensus figures come from FN2's earnings event records. Market reaction and volume are calculated from daily adjusted bars around the event; abnormal move subtracts the SPY move over the same window.

Analyst target low, average, and high values are derived at request time from each named analyst's latest persisted FMP target. The current-price marker comes from FN2's persisted market snapshot. They are sell-side estimates, not an FN2 valuation or recommendation.

Transcript intelligence is a structured synthesis of the current and prior earnings-call analyses. Missing values stay missing and are never estimated.
